The protagonist of the book is Dennis, a dumpster truck bear, thriving on both attention and his job. When his dumpster truck is replaced, Dennis finds himself, abandoned and alone, not to mention vulnerable to both his enemies and the elements. A confused and bewildered Dennis is rescued and befriended by Trev the rat, who, with the help of his laboratory friends, helps Dennis recover his memory and they embark on adventure which will eventually lead him back to his original home and his roots.
The two friends encounter a series of adventures and characters along the way which makes this book and enchanting and delightful book for readers of any age. The cryptic clues to the hidden treasure are found on every page of the book, interspersed with the story and illustrations of Dennis. Readers must solve these clues in order to locate the hidden treasure.

A launch event was held at the Piranha Studios' Newcastle HQ on Saturday 6 August 2005. Tickets were available to the public and visitors could claim their advance copy of the hunt before the book went on generally sale from 1 September 2005.
